A Wedding Weekend at Bernardus Lodge & Spa

Jillian & Charlie’s Celebration in Carmel Valley

Some wedding weekends unfold slowly and intentionally, allowing everyone to be fully present. Jillian and Charlie’s celebration in Carmel Valley was exactly that — relaxed, joyful, and centered on time with the people they love most.

From their western-inspired welcome party to their golden-hour ceremony at Bernardus Lodge, every part of the weekend felt personal and thoughtfully paced.

A Western Welcome Party to Start the Weekend

The celebration began the day before at Cowgirl Winery, where Jillian and Charlie hosted a western-themed welcome party. Denim, boots, laughter, and wine country views set the tone for a playful and immersive weekend.

Before the party, the couple took portraits at a private estate barn to fully lean into the cowboy-western aesthetic. It was a fun and memorable way to kick off the festivities and gave guests a glimpse into the personality of the weekend ahead.

A Slow, Meaningful Wedding Morning

Wedding day began calmly, with Jillian and Charlie getting ready in separate villas alongside their closest friends and family. The morning was unhurried — time to lounge, share stories, and soak it all in.

They exchanged gifts privately and enjoyed those quiet moments before seeing each other for the first time.

First Look in the Lavender Garden

Their first look took place in the lavender garden, surrounded by soft light and the calm beauty of Carmel Valley.

I always love when couples choose a first look because it allows the timeline to breathe. Jillian and Charlie were able to enjoy portraits together, followed by bridal party and family photos, without feeling rushed.

Afterward, they had time to freshen up and relax before guests arrived — which makes a meaningful difference in how the day feels.

A Ceremony with a View

Ceremonies in the rose garden are truly special. With mountain views and golden California light, the setting feels both expansive and intimate.

For guests, it’s a breathtaking experience — one of those locations where nature quietly does most of the design work.

Cocktail Hour on the Croquet Lawn

Guests transitioned to cocktail hour on the croquet lawn, where mini golf, croquet, signature cocktails, and passed appetizers kept the energy lively and social.

Because Jillian and Charlie had done a first look, they were able to be fully present — laughing, hugging friends, and actually enjoying the celebration they planned.

That presence always shows in photos.

An Intimate and Joyful Reception

Their reception felt warm and heartfelt, filled with meaningful toasts, laughter, and a few happy tears.

As the evening progressed, the atmosphere shifted into party mode. The ballroom dance floor filled quickly, and the couple carried their western theme into the night with a custom neon bar sign that added a playful, personal touch.

It was the perfect blend of elegance and fun.
